It takes some time for students to get familiar with variables like 𝑥 and 𝑦.
Solving lot of simple problems will make the students familiar.
The algebraic term 𝑥 + 𝑦 cannot be simplified. But the term 𝑥 + 𝑥 can be simplified as 2𝑥.
𝑥 + 𝑥2 cannot be simplified.
But 𝑥2 + 𝑥2 can be simplified as 2𝑥2.
Similarly, 6𝑦2 - 4𝑦2 can be simplified as 2𝑦2.
Also, 4𝑦2 - 6𝑦2 can be simplified as -2𝑦2.
Similar terms can be added together.
It is possible to add two or more algebraic expression.
Just like addition we can do subtraction.
But we have to properly handle the negative sign.
In algebra, to represent multiplication, we use dot sign instead of cross. It is to avoid confusion between x and x.
In multiplication, each term of the first expression is multiplied with each term of the second expression.
In basic division problems we cancel out the common factors.
